The Spanish nautical market closes 2025 with stability and a positive boost at the end of the year

The Spanish recreational boating market closed 2025 in a context of stability, with clear signs of recovery towards the end of the season, according to the report “El mercado náutico cierra 2025 con estabilidad y un último trimestre favorable”, prepared by ANEN (Asociación Nacional de Empresas Náuticas) using data from the Directorate General of the Merchant Marine.

Throughout the year, 4,992 recreational boats were registered in Spain, a figure very close to that of 2024 and representing a slight year-on-year decrease of -0.9%, confirming a general trend of adjustment and consolidation of the market after several years of sustained growth.

Market trends

  • A strong final quarter: The last quarter of the year was particularly positive, with December recording a 14% increase, helping to close the year on a solid note despite a more demanding economic environment.
  • Small boats dominate the market: Vessels of up to 6 metres continue to be the backbone of the sector, accounting for 70% of registrations, while the 6 to 8 metre segment even showed slight year-on-year growth.
  • Types of vessels: Motorboats were the most in demand (41.4% of the total), followed by personal watercraft. The strong growth of foldable inflatable boats (+47.2%) also stood out, a segment that is gaining ground in the residential boating market.
  • Charter market: The boat rental segment experienced a year of adjustment with 1,418 registrations (-19.3%). However, the 43.8% increase recorded in December points to a possible normalisation after several years of strong expansion.

Territorial distribution

The data confirm that the Mediterranean arc remains a strategic area for recreational boating. The Balearic Islands led registrations, followed closely by Barcelona. In addition, provinces such as Murcia and Alicante showed notable growth in 2025, reinforcing their importance within the national nautical sector.

An opportunity to continue promoting boating from the Club Nàutic Estartit

The ANEN report highlights how the Spanish nautical market has been able to adapt after years of strong growth, maintaining stable demand and showing a clear recovery in the final part of the year. This scenario is particularly relevant for nautical clubs such as Club Nàutic Estartit, which continue to be key hubs for the development of recreational boating, training, mooring and the promotion of a responsible relationship with the sea. The sector’s stability and positive outlook for 2026 strengthen the club’s role as a local driver of nautical, sporting and social activity on the Costa Brava.
