At Club Nàutic Estartit, one of our main commitments is to ensure the safety of vessels while preserving the marine environment in which we operate. That’s why we regularly carry out maintenance of the port’s mooring lines—an essential task that is often overlooked, but crucial for the proper functioning of our facilities.

What are mooring lines?
Mooring lines are the systems that allow boats to be securely tied up inside the harbor. They are made up of a set of components—sinkers (or deadweights), chains, buoys, and shackles—that ensure each vessel remains stable in its position, even in adverse weather conditions.
This system not only provides stability and order within the harbor basin but also prevents collisions, reduces the risk of damage, and ensures a peaceful stay for both boats and their crews.
Maintenance: a technical and rigorous task
The maintenance of mooring lines is carried out in a planned and systematic manner. It includes tasks such as:
• Underwater inspection of all system components
• Replacement of worn or corroded chains and shackles
• Review of sinkers to ensure their stability on the seabed
• Inspection of buoys and mooring lines
• Cleaning and waste control to prevent damaged parts from polluting the sea
This time, the work lasted nearly four weeks. The chains were replaced along gangways 100, the floating pontoon, the first section of the central quay, and the expansion gangway in the water area. At the same time, pontoons A, Garbí, and the central quay were inspected.
A team of 5 professional divers took part in the work, supported by our entire crew of marina staff.

To carry out these tasks, four types of chains were used: 12, 14, 16, and 18 mm, for a total combined length of 3,250 meters.
These interventions are carried out in accordance with the criteria established by port and environmental regulations, and are documented to ensure traceability and technical oversight of the process.

Benefits for all
This type of maintenance not only has a direct impact on the safety and operability of the harbor, but also represents a concrete act of environmental responsibility. A well-maintained mooring system reduces the risk of breakages or accidental spills at sea, and protects the seabed from unnecessary damage.
Moreover, it allows us to offer our users—whether long-term or transient—the highest quality service, in line with the Club’s standards and the environmental certifications that support us.
We continue to work towards a safer and more sustainable harbor
At Club Nàutic Estartit, we will continue to invest in technology, maintenance, and technical training in order to ensure increasingly efficient and environmentally respectful harbor management. Because taking care of the harbor also means taking care of the sea!
