IOM Trophy Estartit 2026: start of the racing season

On Saturday 17 January 2026, Club Nàutic Estartit hosted the IOM Trophy Estartit 2026, a regatta of the International One Metre (IOM) Class that marked the opening of the Club’s annual competition calendar.

The event took place within the outer basin managed by CN Estartit and featured the participation of 10 competitors, in a day characterised by variable weather conditions, with south-easterly winds and intermittent rain, which nevertheless allowed the full scheduled programme to be completed.

A race course highly valued by competitors

Throughout the day, a total of seven races were completed on a course that is particularly appreciated by IOM class sailors. Its location within the outer basin provides interesting and shifting wind conditions, as well as excellent visibility of the race area from the boat control zone (the external floating pontoon), facilitating race monitoring and precise boat control.

Despite the demanding weather conditions, the regatta ran smoothly and tested the competitors’ ability to adapt, both in reading the wind and in making tactical decisions.

The International One Metre (IOM) Class

The International One Metre (IOM) Class consists of radio-controlled sailing yachts measuring one metre in length, which can be fitted with up to three rigs of different sizes, adaptable according to wind strength. Each boat is operated via a controller with an assigned frequency, while several servo motors on board allow precise control of the rudder and sail trim.

This is a discipline that combines technical skill, strategy and precision, and which enjoys widespread international participation, with highly specialised sailors and a high competitive standard.

Final results

After the seven races completed, the final standings of the IOM Trophy Estartit 2026 were as follows:

  • 1st place: Eduard Bonifacio – CN El Balís
  • 2nd place: Ramon Soler – CM Cubelles
  • 3rd place: Paul Le Duc – CN Sant Feliu de Guíxols

The Club would also like to highlight the participation of local sailors Narcís Bou, Josep Massó and Jeroni Tarrés, who represented Club Nàutic Estartit in this first event of the season.

Opening of the 2026 sports competition calendar

The IOM Trophy Estartit 2026 has officially opened the Club’s annual competition calendar, which will run from January through to November. The next major event will be the Catalan Optimist Class Championship, to be held on the weekends of 7, 8, 14 and 15 March.

A new sporting season that begins with this radio-controlled sailing regatta and further consolidates Estartit as a regular venue for nautical competitions across different disciplines.
