At Club Nàutic Estartit, we have first-class facilities designed to offer maximum comfort, safety, and quality to all port users. That’s why we are prepared to accommodate boats all year round, with services and infrastructure that ensure the best nautical experience. Even so, it’s important to keep in mind that boats remain permanently moored and are therefore exposed to weather changes, humidity, wind, and the natural movement of the water. For this reason, regular maintenance and constant care are essential: not only do they help prevent possible damage, but they also extend the lifespan of materials and preserve the condition of each vessel. What should be taken into consideration?

Well-sized moorings
Mooring lines are the key point of safety. They must always be in good condition and properly sized, with impact dampeners (springs or elastomers) that reduce the jolts caused by wind and sea movement. In addition, it is important that they include an additional safety system, such as a bypass chain stopper.
Throughout the year, it is advisable to check and reinforce the moorings, adapting them according to the position of the boat on the dock (breast lines, spring lines, stern lines, or crossed lines).
Safe distance from the dock
To avoid rubbing and impacts against the dock, it is necessary to maintain a minimum separation:
- Vessels from 8 to 14 meters in length: 2 meters
- Vessels from 14 to 24 meters in length: 3 meters
This space is essential so that, when there are variations in sea level or movement in the harbor, the vessel has a safety margin.
Flexibility and tension absorption
Boats must be able to move slightly within their mooring. When a boat is held too rigidly, the risk of breaking the lines increases, whereas a boat with some play is better able to absorb the constant stresses of wind and water.

Care of canopies and sails
- It is best to remove canopies during the off-season to avoid degradation and deterioration.
- Sails, especially headsails, should be removed or properly secured. Otherwise, the wind can unfurl them and cause damage.
- The mainsail covers must also be well fastened. Sails left rolled up for many months accumulate moisture and can eventually develop mold that is difficult to clean.
Fenders and lateral protection
Each vessel needs fenders suited to its size and weight:
- A minimum of four fenders on each side.
- Properly sized and, if inflatable, kept at the correct pressure.
- They should be replaced when they frequently deflate.
Fenders are essential not only to protect your own boat, but also the neighboring ones.
Details that make the difference
- On sailboats, halyards should be secured to prevent noise and banging against the mast.
- On open cockpit boats, a central pole should be placed under the canopy to prevent rainwater from accumulating.
- A monthly inspection of the boat is essential, even when it is not in use, in order to detect any issues in time.

The fact that boats remain moored in the port all year round makes maintenance a continuous and essential task. The marina team is present 365 days a year to ensure the safety of all vessels in the harbor. In addition to protecting your boat, these best practices also help guarantee harmonious coexistence among all users of Club Nàutic Estartit. Constant care is the best investment in safety, durability, and peace of mind.
