Fire drill with the Firefighters at our port

On March 21st, in collaboration with the Fire Department of the Generalitat, we carried out a fire drill at our port. This training and prevention day allowed us not only to test emergency protocols but also to raise awareness among our members, employees, and users about the importance of acting quickly and effectively in the face of a real risk situation.

Why do we conduct fire drills at the harbor?

Drills are essential tools to prepare everyone who is regularly present at the harbor, including the professional team. In an environment like this—where boats, fuel, electrical systems, and flammable materials all come together—a fire can have devastating consequences if not brought under control in time. Practicing allows us to:

  • Check the proper functioning of alarm and extinguishing systems.
  • Coordinate the response between harbor staff, crews, and emergency services.
  • Reduce response time in the event of a real emergency.
  • Identify weaknesses in the evacuation protocol and correct them.
  • Train staff in first aid and the use of fire extinguishers.

What dangers do we encounter in a harbor?

A marina, although primarily a recreational space, includes several elements that make it a vulnerable environment when it comes to fire risks:

  • Fuel on board: Most boats are equipped with gasoline or diesel tanks, increasing the risk of explosion.
  • Flammable materials: Many vessels contain wood, plastics, and fabrics that ignite easily.
  • Confined and hard-to-access spaces: Fire can spread quickly and be difficult to control.
  • High foot traffic: Especially during peak season, ensuring a safe and orderly evacuation is essential.

The role of the Firefighters

Collaboration with the Fire Department was essential to ensure the drill was carried out with realism and professionalism. During the day, a simulated fire broke out on a boat moored at one of the docks. The firefighters conducted a full intervention—from the initial alert to extinguishing the fire and evacuating the area. They also took the opportunity to teach basic self-protection techniques and answer questions.

Committed to safety

At Club Nàutic Estartit, we work every day to offer a safe and well-prepared harbor. This kind of activity strengthens our commitment to risk prevention and the protection of people, the marine environment, and our facilities.

We sincerely thank the Firefighters, the harbor staff, and all the participants for their involvement. We will continue to organize these kinds of activities because when it comes to safety, prevention is always better than cure.
