Vibrant start of the XXIII Interclubs Empordà between l’Estartit and L’Escala

On 12th and 13th October, Club Nàutic Estartit and Club Nàutic L’Escala kicked off the XXIII Interclubs Empordà, bringing together 30 crews in a regatta that brings together sailing from the northern Costa Brava and the south of France. This event, which celebrates the passion for the sea and competition, included three races in varied conditions in spectacular surroundings in the Parc Natural del Montgrí, les Illes Medes and el Baix Ter.

On Saturday, two races were sailed in an intense garbi wind, with gusts of up to 25 knots, which put the crews’ technique and endurance to the test around the Medes, before the crossing to L’Escala. Sunday, with a clearer sky and a light thermal wind of between 8 and 12 knots, the participants enjoyed a windward-leeward race to Montgó and Empurias.

In the HN category, Vincent Fourquet’s Maiana (Dufour 44) leads with four points, followed by Jean-Claude Margail’s Heyoka and Lluís Tabar’s Valentina. In the ORC category, Martí Gelabert’s L’Oreig (Archambault A35) is in the lead, closely followed by Jean Sannac’s Chaman J and Lluís Casademont’s Manu Tercer.

In addition to the competition, the sailors enjoyed lunches and raffles, thanks to the collaborators Varadero Estartit and Varadero L’Escala, who offered discounts on antifouling services. Saturday concluded with the long awaited Interclubs Meeting Point at the Club Nàutic L’Escala, where sailors and fans shared experiences and anecdotes over a good plate of pasta, in a relaxed atmosphere of camaraderie.

The next stage of this exciting competition to Empuriabrava and Roses promises even more challenges and fun for all the crews that follow the Interclubs Empordà circuit.
