The Parliament of Catalonia has approved a new measure<\/a><\/strong> that halves recreational sea urchin fishing<\/strong> in order to protect the species and ensure the sustainability of the marine environment. From Club N\u00e0utic Estartit, we support initiatives that promote responsible coastal management and help maintain the balance between enjoying the sea and preserving its ecosystem.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

New restrictions for sea urchin fishing<\/h2>\n\n\n\n
<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Under this new regulation, the number of sea urchins that recreational fishers can catch is reduced from 150 to 75 per day. <\/strong>The measure is adopted to protect the populations of this species,<\/strong> highly valued gastronomically, but which faces pressure in several areas of the Costa Brava. In addition, the limitation also aims to prevent conflicts with professional fishing, as licensed commercial fishers had expressed concern over excessive catches in the recreational sector.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fines can reach up to 30,000\u20ac in cases of fishing without a permit or illegal sale of sea urchins, a practice expressly prohibited in recreational fishing. In this way, the aim is to reduce pressure on marine resources and ensure that recreational fishing is carried out responsibly and respectfully toward the environment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
