Sea kayaking<\/strong> is an increasingly popular sport and leisure activity along the Costa Brava and the entire Catalan coastline. L\u2019Estartit is an ideal place to enjoy unique natural areas, explore hidden coves, and connect with the sea in an intimate way. However, this also comes with responsibilities. The Co-management Board of the Maritime Coastline of Baix Empord\u00e0<\/a><\/strong>, with the support of the Government of the Generalitat of Catalonia, has developed a set of key recommendations for practicing kayaking in a mindful and civic manner.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  • Check the weather forecast, <\/strong>especially the wind and sea conditions.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Plan your route according<\/strong> to your experience and the season.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Bring basic safety equipment<\/strong> (life jacket, non-slip shoes, etc.).<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Have a communication system <\/strong>with coverage (mobile phone, VHF radio channel 16).<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Know the regulations of the marine protected areas<\/strong> where you are kayaking.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

    The Baix Empord\u00e0 coastline is rich in biodiversity and fragile ecosystems. Here are some good environmental practices:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    • Avoid swimming areas<\/strong> and use designated access channels to reach coves.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • Do not touch the rocks with your kayak<\/strong> and carry it carefully.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • Do not land on vegetation<\/strong> or other sensitive organisms.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • Do not feed wildlife;<\/strong> observe it silently and from a distance.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • Follow marked trails<\/strong> to avoid damaging dune systems.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • Try to collect any floating waste you find, <\/strong>especially plastics.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n
