Summer has arrived, and the coves along the Montgr\u00ed coastline, such as Montg\u00f3, Ferriol, and Pedrosa, have once again become a popular destination for sailors and nature lovers. But this year, more than ever, it\u2019s time to practice responsible anchoring<\/strong><\/a> and contribute to the conservation of Posidonia oceanica<\/strong><\/em>, a marine plant essential to our marine ecosystem.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Why is it so important to anchor responsibly?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n
<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Posidonia<\/em> is a protected marine plant<\/strong>, not an alga. It forms underwater meadows<\/strong> that:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/div>\n\n\n\n
    \n
  • Produce oxygen<\/strong> and improve water quality.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Provide habitat and shelter<\/strong> for hundreds of marine species.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Protect beaches<\/strong> from erosion.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Act as a carbon sink<\/strong>, which is essential in the fight against climate change.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

    However, it is very fragile: uncontrolled anchoring can rip out its roots and cause irreversible damage to the seabed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

        To strengthen marine conservation, jet skis are prohibited this summer in areas where Posidonia<\/em> is present<\/strong>, particularly in the coves of Montg\u00f3, Ferriol, and Pedrosa<\/strong>. This measure aims to prevent disturbances caused by engines, waves, and aggressive maneuvers in the most sensitive parts <\/strong>of the seabed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
