This summer, the Medes Islands and their surrounding area have witnessed a troubling phenomenon: the sustained rise in sea and air temperatures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Throughout the month of August, a record temperature was recorded at the sea surface, with a peak of 27.65 \u00baC on August 9th, the second-highest temperature registered during an August since 1974. These data are the result of the meticulous work of Josep Pascual, a meteorological observer who, for over 50 years, has collected sea temperature data<\/a>. His contribution has created an invaluable database for the international scientific community, highlighting the effects of climate change in the Mediterranean. His observations are key to driving initiatives and policies for environmental preservation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This record temperature marks 2024 as a critical year in terms of global warming. A comparison with previous years indicates a worrying trend of constant warming in this area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This warming, which affects all layers of the ocean, has serious repercussions on marine ecosystems that directly depend on water temperature. The most vulnerable species may be forced to migrate to cooler areas or, in the worst case, face extinction. In response to these effects, it is essential to highlight the importance of innovative projects like the marine recovery system installed at the Club N\u00e0utic Estartit. Developed by Ocean Ecostructures<\/a>, this system uses multifunctional structures that promote marine biodiversity, integrating technology and sustainability into a single solution. These types of initiatives reduce the impact of human activity on ecosystems and also facilitate the recovery of species affected by climate change.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In addition to the warming of the waters, a significant increase in air temperature has also been recorded. In Estartit, the average air temperature this summer was the third-highest recorded in the past 50 years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
