What is the Oncotrail?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<\/div>\n\n\n\nL‘Oncotrail<\/a> is a charitable mountain race that has become an essential event for many athletes and organizations committed to the fight against cancer. Organized by the Oncolliga Girona Foundation, with the support of the Agrupaci\u00f3 Excursionista Palafrugell and Club Atl\u00e8tic Palafrugell, this race aims to raise funds to improve the quality of life of cancer patients and their families, as well as to support cancer research.<\/p>\n\n\n\nOncotrail stands out for its sporting aspect and the tangible impact it generates. The funds raised are allocated to cover urgent needs in Girona hospitals, such as the renewal of beds and chairs in chemotherapy rooms, and also to research carried out by the Catalan Institute of Oncology (ICO) in Girona, which works to develop more effective cancer treatments. Thirty percent of the resources are dedicated to ensuring the continuity of the Oncolliga Girona Foundation\u2019s care services, which include psychological and social support for patients and their families.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It is important to highlight that Oncotrail, in addition to being a sports endurance event, is also a demonstration of how the community can come together for a common goal. <\/div>\n\n\n\nThe Oncotrail 2024 Route: Costa Brava and Gavarres<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<\/div>\n\n\n\nOncotrail tests the endurance and determination of participants on a mainly mountain route of 100 km, which passes through some of the most iconic landscapes of the Costa Brava and Gavarres.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The route must be completed within a maximum of 30 hours. With a positive elevation gain of 4,073 m and a negative elevation loss of 4,103 m, it starts and ends in Palafrugell, passing through towns such as Calella de Palafrugell, Llafranc, Tamariu, Begur, Pals, and Mont-ras.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
One of the most significant features of this race is its team structure, which can be male, female, or mixed, where participants are organized into groups of 6 to 8 people. This dynamic encourages the inclusion of people with various physical abilities and levels of experience, making Oncotrail a shared and enriching experience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Teams must always keep four members in motion, and they can take turns at the checkpoints established along the route.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
